IGOT and Ortho Jamaica

IGOT in collaboration with OrthoJamaica, a volunteer organization dedicated to reducing the burden of disease caused by accidents and injuries in Jamaica and the Caribbean, have established an academic relationship between the orthopaedic training programs at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). OrthoJamaica and IGOT sponsor UCSF residents’ travel to Kingston, Jamaica where they gain invaluable training while working in one of the busiest trauma centers in the developing world. Armed with their rich orthopaedic trauma experience gained at San Francisco General Hospital, these residents learn to apply their skills in the setting of limited resources. UCSF residents spend three to five weeks of their fourth year training in developing countries. This experience helps these future pioneers in orthopaedics become part of the global health care community.
